Taliska Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Hummm... Annoying raspy rattly noise from Climate Control unit emanating from left air intake on the unit. (It's only a single version as standard in the TDI 115 Ghia.) "I'll show you plenty of units that make that noise" says agent - so I guess that's a 'no' for the warranty claim. Does yours make a funny niggly noise - is it really normal??? :D I'd be more than interested to see if you think it should be replaced / repaired. Hummm... Taliska Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 Its been covered elsewhere but I think the noise is from the sensor fan in the unit? it my be and idea to see if the fan is dirty or its vents are blocked in any way? try blowing some air through the vent or stick the hoover hose over it and suck it clean! HJT Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 My climate control unit doesn't make any noise at all. If it's annoying you I would demand they sort it, you paid enough money for the car it should be right. We shouldn't have to put up with this b.s. from them. There are a lot of dealers who seem to have forgotten who the customer is. I seem to be lucky with my local dealer. They seem interested in keeping the customer happy. Howard Quote

Ditto - I agree. Mine does not rattle either, but it is only 9 months old. My dealers going to be asked to sort out the ticking noise from the aux heater at 1st service. Quote
rwtomkins Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 haven't noticed anything from mine and i'm one of the more noise-sensitive types! Quote
seatkid Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 As mentioned before, dust builds up (and sticks) on the small sensor fan in the control unit (just to the left of the display behind a tiny grill) and eventually the blades start brushing against the fan housing (like in a lot of PC's) causing a rasping type noise, and eventually stalling the fan. The best way to clean is a small photo brush and suck with a hoover hose, but take care as if the fan were to rev too much, it may be damaged Quote
Taliska Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 Do you have to open the unit up to do this cleaning? Thanks for the info, seatkid. Taliska Quote
seatkid Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Don't open up the unit, you'll invalidate the warranty! Just try from the the front of the unit, small soft brush (maybe a toothbrush) to loosen the dirt, and a vacuum hose set at low to suck it out :( Worked with mine! :( Although mine was 4 yrs old when it started. If its still the same, complain and complain again... :(...under warranty.... Quote
Taliska Posted April 23, 2004 Author Report Posted April 23, 2004 Will have a go... Thanks, Taliska Quote
